I Kinda STILL Don't Like Those Odds (R-Type)

Man, if there's one game subgenre where being a minion would suck the most, it's the bullet -hell shooter.

At least in a TPS or FPS, as a minion, you can take cover and maybe take a bullet or two before you inevitably bite the dust. In a Platformer, the chances are at the very least you can hope to damage the main character by... well, walking into him.

But in a bullet-hell shooter, it goes like this:

1) Enter the right hand side of screen, try to move 1mm closer to the player character
2) Die

You kinda wonder whether or not they stop and think, "y'know, is this really WORTH it?" before diving in head-on.

I mean, you wouldn't even be a notch in his belt. You wouldn't even be ten points to him. Why not go home and watch Catchphrase instead?

I kinda like those bullet hell shooters... It's funny seeing it from the 'bad guys' perspective.

Being the final boss in a scrolling shooter must be damned expensive, too.

True, but at least (particularly with R-type) you know that all you have to do is hit the hero once and you screw him over by sending him back to the beginning of the stage with no power ups, all the while laughing "HAHAHA try doing that again NOW!!"

That sort of gratification would be worth it.
